Bantam Chickens on a Pocket Prairie
Hi Everyone.. life sure is serendipitous! About 10 years ago, I did a stint in Iraq, and daydreamed about all the things I would get/change/do when I got home. Well, one thing I was obsessed with were silkie/frizzles/cute bantam mixes. But, I got home and realized how hard it was to find a house in the city/burbs that let you have chickens in the yard... until an epiphany last week! I came across a post selling a parrot cage that could be used for SMALL CHICKENS!! And the rest is history!! I now have 3 baby chicks, now 2 weeks old, and I am so happy!
Now onto the template...
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I have always had birds, cockatiels, parrots, and still have a conure who is 18 years old! But never have had chickens
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 3 chicks, 2 weeks old as of tomorrow!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I thought I had 3 silkies, but I now know I have 2 silkies, and a 3rd that I am going to have to figure out!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Well mine will be livingroom chickens, so being able to interact with them as part of the family is my favorite.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Well evidently I am a master gardener
I have been planting things for ages, but only recently realized that this is a skill i have! I also love camping, outdoors, island vacations.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two school age kiddos, two maltipoos who are a little over a year, and my 18 year old peach front conure.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Always know about it, found it back in my chicken daydreaming days
