It is to early to say for sure on the MOM but I have a suspect and I'll post it as soon as I can get it to download.

The Suspect dad BTW is called Duke he is the only Rooster I ever bought on purpose. His predecessor Huey (as in Baby Huey Black ?cochins seem to have lil white bums looks like a diaper) Was Killed while I believe or want to believe defending the flock. One of the neighbors dogs early kills. But in all honesty Duke is a much better looking specimen.

Gorgeous! Love the iridescence... yes on another thread someone was trying to help me ID my Minnie Mouse, and we were thinking cochin, but she was missing the white butt. Of course, that's because she was D'uccle.. I'll see what I end up here.. but if I end up with 2 male silkies, I might go for a cochin.. just seems like if I'm going to have fliers, I might as well have them all flying! Actually, I'd really like a D'uccle, silkie, bantam cochin mix!!

Moon baby is flying all over the cage now. She goes from the perch, to the swing, to the top of the food container.. I already found the parrot perch for the top of my current parrots cage. I'll start to get them used to it so when the time comes, they know it's their landing spot. It has a litter tray as well.

How did your chickens like the new swings today? Any takers?

I'm going to finish Westworld then hold the chickies :)

Some of my Sasser girls are D'Uccle and silkie mixes If i ever get the pics uploaded so i can post them I'll show you what to expect. I know two of them were The slikie roo and Cochin Sasser girls are the most silkiest luxurious feeling girls EVER. None of the silkie crosses had silkie feathers though must need a silkie momma for that. Love my sasser girls and they got that name by earning it. They took the chicken yard by storm they are so sassy they are spicy!!
Nobody using the swings yet at least while I'm watching.
I have watched most of westworld it's ok. Got started because I liked the original movie westworld way way back in the 70's always wished there was a sequel. With modern effects and such it makes a much more believable show though not sure all the nudity, sex etc is really neccessary for the storyline seems to be less and less to the point of non existence to find wholsome stuff to watch nowdays. I can forsee a day where all I watch are my chickens.

Yes, I agree on season 1 and 2, more violence and sexual violence than ever necessary for the show.. season 3 seems different in that regard. I wont post any spoilers (plus I'm not done).

So this weekend Minnie is 4 weeks old, so technically 2 days away, but her feet seem to have grown since last week, and more color coming in, especially at the top of her head. I think based on size, Moon Baby is 3 weeks old. I tried to take pics of Cinnamon, but that one is uncooperative. I am thinking male still, and a little younger than 3 weeks (and still tiny).

I'm trying to handle the silkies but they just scream and scratch and dont seem to enjoy it one bit. And I thought they would be the mellow ones! The D'Uccles (at least my 2) really seem to enjoy being held and exploring. I dont know if I should wait more on the silkies, or increase the handling time, but I'm not sensing happy to be held chicks at all.

My tip for getting babies to settle down to being held is to three or four times a day pick them upsnuggle em under your chin a second or two the put them back into the enclosure standing on your open hand offer treats if they stay long enough. But don't try to stop em from jumping off your hand. Once they get the idea that they are free to leave but can enjoy some snuggle and treats if they want they will calm down and and enjoy thge luvin without the need to hold them down. Has worked well for me. Not 100percent there will always be some that just aren't social with you but it works more often than not.

Ok, that sounds like a good idea. I bought some meal worms the other day.. I'll offer them as a treat :)

Too tired for TV, but I did get to hold each chickie. Have a good night!

One more thing if they jump down immediately and refuse to take the treat from your hand go ahead and give it to them on the ground. Let them know basically your love is unconditional they don't have to earn it. But that you will caretake and care for them the same. Kinda like being the top hen or top roo in their flock you take care of all of them they will come to accept you. Not sure if it is for the reasons I describe but it works for whatever reason. At least in my limited experience.

I am going to let them out to walk on the floor in a little bit.. I'll see if they come up to me. Well they do peck at my hand through the wire! I have the bribes ready!

I loved having my babies out. Nothing is more special than when they spontaneously come to you. Exercising their own free will and want to come to you. Truly warmed my heart even as they got older and needed me less and less. They still always came to my shoulder at bed time. Soo sweet. I miss having them in here with me. Here finally is the pic of Bubby and Sissy together, has taken forever to get it loaded.
