New bantam, unknown breed....help us guess!

Thanks for the photos! Very helpful. I will refer to this later.

We also bought a barred rock chick. It does not like us as much as the D'Uccle. We are new to the chicks, so this is interesting. I hope neither are Roos. Thanks.

The name of the breed, American Bantam Association, is: Belgian Bearded d'Uccle.

They are no relation to Cochins., which are an oriental breed

Belgian Bearded d'Uccles in the US, are bred in Black, Blue, Buff, Golden Neck, Mille Fleur, Mottled, Porcelein, Self Blue and White. d'Uccles are single combed, have beards (muffs) and feathered legs.

Another Belgian Bantam breed well known in the US., is Belgian Bearded d'Anvers. The d'Anvers is also bred in a number of Varieties (colors/patterns) including Mille Fleur and Porcelein.

Mille Fleur is just a name of a color and pattern. A number of breeds are bred in the Mille Fleur. Often, folks do not realize that Mille Fleur is only a color name, not a breed, but the Belgians are well known for the color.

The Belgian Bearded d'Anvers, with rose comb, night be considered "hardier", but most bantams require some protection from severe cold of winter. In a coop with a number of other compatible birds, for close roosting, Belgian bantams are fairly hardy! Should be a lovely little friend (maybe could trade with a friend who has Cochins?)

Wow, thanks for all the great info! I think she has accepted it is not a cochin :) Do you know if all the D'Uccles have a beard?

Welcome to the club. I also found out I had two. Scored the little gals at TSC. My forum thread suggested it was a pullet, yours may be too. Mine.
Well congrats! Others have guessed that Sandstorm is a hen, so hopefully that is true. Where are you in Michigan?
