Well, that's a good story and a sad story at the same time. Thanks for sharing. I am not looking forward to chicken fatalities although where I live and the number of raccoons I see, I suspect I might be in for some trouble. Now I need to get myself a dog! Thanks! I named her Lightning as a reference to the song Rainbow in the Dark. She had 4 siblings who died as chicks (because my local feed store sucks. They sold me six sick birds), and one who was eaten by wild animals. She still has Sparkle (an adopted sister from a different feed store, who’s siblings were all eaten by the same dang raccoons who took Lightning’s sister), and they tend to keep to themselves, unless it’s bedtime and they’re roosting with the other birds. I have 22 chickens in total.
I would recommend a retriever or a pit bull. Retriever dogs are often used as rescue and service animals, and my aunt, who is a veterinarian, says that pit bulls are strangely some of the nicest and most loyal family dogs she works with, contrary to popular belief. My grandma has an Australian Shepard, who is well trained and has been around chickens for most of her life.Well, that's a good story and a sad story at the same time. Thanks for sharing.
