I've been wanting chickens for over 15 yrs and I finally did it! Last Friday I went to a poultry farm about an hour and a half away and got my first chickies. I had decided years ago that I wanted Barred Plymouth Rocks. I now have three. They are currently living in a large dog crate. I fuss over them to make sure the temp, food, water, and their health is just right. I've been reading for years about what to do, but I'm still nervous. I asked for 3 females, but I have a suspicion that one of the 3 is a male. It has a large spot on its head and is definitely the dominate chick. Guess we will see. I'm super excited to have FINALLY got my chickens! I bought a hen house for them to live in but haven't put it together yet. Looking forward to many years of happy times with my new chickens.

Thank you everyone! It's comforting to know there is a place I can go to make sure I have all the info I need for my little ones. I already had to google what chick poop is supposed to look like and "is my chick dead or asleep" and found out that the drop dead look is normal. Also, looked up if my chick had "pasty butt". Turned out it was just a bit of left over belly button stuff. I get up in the middle of the night to check to make sure that the temp in the brooder is just right. LOL... And I've only had them a week!!
