ooh catching them is the time consuming part! And they PEEP like it is the end of the world!!! They scream at me the entire time I carry them back in the tote, the whole time I'm putting them back in the brooder, and then they continue to tell me off for about 2 minutes until they settle in. It's like they are peeping STRANGER DANGER!!!! STRANGER DANGER!!!!....they are very friendly, but when it comes to collecting them, you'd swear they've never seen me before and they think I'm going to eat them... (hehehe...not yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeett!)

They look incredible! I would love to get some! Unfortunately, we only have 1 1/2 acres..and with 13 layers, 3 roos, and quail, I don't think we really have room for the freedom rangers yet, but I really want them!! The Cornish work great, because the dogs are on electronic collars and can't go near them..they are trained to the beeping collar thank Goodness, cuz momma couldn't handle it if they got shocked

Since the Cornish don't travel too far away from their tractor...20, 30 feet or so, we are able to give the dogs the run of an acre+ (and hubby his prized lawn).. and the kids their pool, the soccer net, and the trampoline...I get the other >1/2 acre for my hobbies (heck, after the house, driveway, patio, decks, etc, I'm thinking I might have >1/4 acre for my stuff...... and on THAT portion of land, I have my vegetable gardens , about 2000 sq feet of them, my meaties tractor and their freer range area, my layers chicken coop and pen, and their deer fenced area, NO idea square footage, but one side is 100 feet of deer fence, other side is picket fence and the chicken pen.... and our woods that borders our neighbors lawn, (they were our best friends of three years...until one of our girls turned out to be a rooster last year.....) (we did rehome him for them, but they still have very little to do with us since as they were quite irritated with the whole thing..you know, the crowing at 9 am...because "NOT everyone, has to be awake at 9 in the morning"?!?! Me:*BAD WORDS*!!!!)....( I now have 3 roos btw...tho, they are only 10 weeks old I believe, and not crowing yet...will KILL me...tears and all, to get rid of these sweet boys.....)

Sorry..I just totally went off on a little tangent...

Anyway... We'd like to do one more batch of meat birds before winter, and I'd love to try the freedom rangers, even though they take longer than the cornish...it would be a really cool experience, but I don't think I have to space to let them wander as much as I assume they would.

I have one chicken in particular, a buff brahma..Belle... I can put her on one side of the property, and she travels 1 1/2 acres across to the other side of the property in I SWEAR, minutes... and wanders into the neighbors yard... needless to say...I had to stop letting her out of her pen and deer fenced area...cuz I would pick her back up, bring her back to the other side of the property, and again...she'd travel the 1 1/2 acres..and go say hi to somebody who had no interest in her being around....unfortunately...but understandably... or she'd wander into the dog area...and well, if that ever happened while I wasn't around (with a min-pin jack russel, and a pitt bull-shepard....) that wouldn't be good for me OR Belle... OR any foraging freedom rangers...

Ahhh I need more land! Lots and lots of it! and in the middle of NOWHERE, preferrably!

Okay, back on track...Krcote, are yours tractored at night, or do they have a coop?

So my meaties are 2 weeks old today! I am having so much fun with this batch!! I start talking to them before I get to the tractor in the morning, and they all start chirping and pressing up against the fence to get closer to me. As soon as I let them out they all file out, and swarm me...a bunch of little peepers around my feet. They follow me part way up to the house while I bring their feeders in to fill them, and I feel like momma hen with all those chickens walking and flying behind me. Seriously, they fly like 3 feet at a time to get where ever they're going quicker then the next guy!

And, I am certain it is all my charming personality....Really... It has nothing to do with the fact that I am the bearer of all things FOOD...... (shhh...go with it!)
