New BC Cream Legbar Chicken Owner

Congratulations...Cream Legbars are a great breed to keep. I hope you have a great hatch.

As for the egg color many Cream Legbar owners say that the bluer the egg the better, but in my personal experience the minty green has been the prettiest color I have seen. The "blue egg gene" produces a very pale blue. With the presents of brown egg gene it combines to make a green color. The darker the the brown egg genes the darker the shade of green. The avacado greens, olive greens, and Kacki colors are the result of darker brown egg colors and not desired for the Legbar. The mint green is a result of tint or, off white, or light cream base color for the egg and really make the color pop. If you have a chalk white base color you do get a more blueish color but it is so faint that the egg look white if it isn't next to a white egg to show the contrast. So these minty green eggs look great to me. :)

Congratulations on your new eggs. I am pretty new to the breed also but I can say our new Jill Rees 2016 hens lay a much greener (minty green) egg than the older (Unknown line) we have had for the past few years. Here's to hoping you have many pullets in this batch!

I can understand how you’d be disappointed if you were expecting powered blue and got something different. My cream legbar just started laying, and her eggs are blue green. I didn’t know to expect powder blue so I think they’re lovely.
