Hey! Somehow I went from getting rid of all my chickens last year to now having almost 30 birds again🤭I know I’ve got at least 2 Roos and I’m waiting for one more (maran) to get a bit older before I can tell if he’s really a roo or not. But my one is just a little banty and he’s a jerk and I’m not really interested in breeding him but my other is supposedly a blue lace red Wyandotte. Now I also have a hen but she looks more gold than red and also not very blue at all. I’d like to breed them but am also wondering what other cool things I could get. I have cream legbars, mystic marans, olive eggers, Easter eggers, rhode islands, silkies, a zombie, a Russian orloff, a Jersey giant, speckled sussex and what I think are some Cochin bantys. So plenty to work with! I am interested to see what a sussex x BLRW would look like but also am curious how eggs work. Back when I first got into chickens like 10 years ago I was super into breeding and genetics and egg colors but I forget all of it. I love biology so you can tell me all about the chromosomes and whatnot and I’ll somewhat understand but I also breed goats and know that it’s all a fun gamble in the end. Mostly curious egg color predicts and if we think it would look cool or not. So what should I mix/not mix?

I don't know how accurate this is https://images.app.goo.gl/UgrHcQbYskM76XS27 but I found it a few months ago when I had similar questions.

I plan to start breeding next spring and all my current breeds (supposedly) lay brown, cream or white eggs. My two oldest are only 5ish months old and only one is currently laying speckled brown eggs.

I'm trying to figure out what males I should get (or keep . . .some unknown genders in the brooder) to get offspring that would lay other colors.

Good luck!
