New brooder and chicks

75 at furthest point from lamp. They were together not on top of each other tho just behind the light not directly under it.


So the light is still too hot but at least they can get away from it. It might help to move the light to the outside of the brooder so it's up higher. You'll get a larger circle of less intense heat that way. Or, if you have a lower wattage bulb, it doesn't have to be a heat lamp to put out enough warmth.
 
LOTS of chicks are born looking like downy chipmunks. I don't think the OP asked what breed the dead chick was, though, so it would be more tactful to have this discussion privately.

Yea the OP said they didnt know what they was. They said they came out of the Bantam assortment. I was just trying to help figure out what breeds they might have. And all i was saying is the twins (one that died) looks like my little cochin (even with the same pattern and feathery legs).
