No more stinky house! I am so glad I finally got the coop and new brooder built so I could get all 49 chicks out of my living room and the 14 older ones off my porch (only for the 49 young ones to replace them).
Hubby and I worked on fixing up the coop and building the nest boxes for the older chicks (5-6 weeks) so they could go outside. I am pretty proud of my carpenter skills for both projects - since Hubby lacks in that area. He is also afraid of running the circular saw... Anyways, I don't have pics of the coop and the older chicks yet, but I have of the younger ones and the new brooder! I'll post pics of the coop tomorrow!
The brooder is 6x4' with a removable divider at the 2' mark (a 4x4' and 2x4' section). I did that so the day olds don't get tromped on by the older chicks. Once they get about a week old, I'll remove the divider - unless I can't practice self control and buy more chicks.
Here's the 8 Easter Eggers, 4 Banties, 2 Golden Comets and 15 Australorps.
While moving them to the new brooder, I tried sexing the 'Lorps. Even at 4 weeks old the boys' wattles are turning red. At this point I am pretty sure I have 8 roos and 7 pullets. Of course, I am keeping the nicest roo and the rest are going to my freezer.
And here are the 10 Speckled Sussex and 10 unknown breed chicks. I think they are either Rhodes Islands or New Hampshire and I think Barred Rocks.
The 10 unknown breed chicks came from Agway and they usually only carry common breeds... But I dunno. They are a surprise all the way around - breed and genders!
I feel like I accomplished a lot this week... and I am pooped!
