No more stinky house! I am so glad I finally got the coop and new brooder built so I could get all 49 chicks out of my living room and the 14 older ones off my porch (only for the 49 young ones to replace them).

Hubby and I worked on fixing up the coop and building the nest boxes for the older chicks (5-6 weeks) so they could go outside. I am pretty proud of my carpenter skills for both projects - since Hubby lacks in that area. He is also afraid of running the circular saw... Anyways, I don't have pics of the coop and the older chicks yet, but I have of the younger ones and the new brooder! I'll post pics of the coop tomorrow!

The brooder is 6x4' with a removable divider at the 2' mark (a 4x4' and 2x4' section). I did that so the day olds don't get tromped on by the older chicks. Once they get about a week old, I'll remove the divider - unless I can't practice self control and buy more chicks.

Here's the 8 Easter Eggers, 4 Banties, 2 Golden Comets and 15 Australorps.

While moving them to the new brooder, I tried sexing the 'Lorps. Even at 4 weeks old the boys' wattles are turning red. At this point I am pretty sure I have 8 roos and 7 pullets. Of course, I am keeping the nicest roo and the rest are going to my freezer.

And here are the 10 Speckled Sussex and 10 unknown breed chicks. I think they are either Rhodes Islands or New Hampshire and I think Barred Rocks.

The 10 unknown breed chicks came from Agway and they usually only carry common breeds... But I dunno. They are a surprise all the way around - breed and genders!

I feel like I accomplished a lot this week... and I am pooped!

Thanks, Gryeyes! I spent an hour in the rain trying to finish it yesterday. I finished it, but I couldn't get it on the porch without removing one of the freezers and the dryer! Getting it in place was harder than putting it together! Tomorrow I'm getting new feeders so the coop will have the 30lb metal feeder and a 5gal metal waterer and the chicks on the big side of the brooder will get the 1 gal plastic waterer and an 11lb plastic feeder. I also want to put a wired lid on the brooder and a little roost 6" off the bottom.

Nothing but as close to the best as I can get for my little obsession worthy feather-butts!
