My dear old dad is very supportive of my chicken journey. He already built me a coop, and now he built me a brooder! While I was at work yesterday, he came over to my house and built one for me in the basement. It was a wonderful surprise! I couldn't be happier. It is pretty big but he wanted it to be a dual purpose type thing- a brooder for the chicks and a carrier for the meat birds when they go to freezer camp. And bless his heart...he gave me padlocks to put on it! He told me "In this type of economy, people take the weirdest things."

(sorry for the large pictures) The middle pannel can slide in and out for when the birds get bigger. The dimensions are- 8ft long x 2ft wide x 2ft tall

Wow! Dad's not kidding when he goes to building stuff, is he? That thing is gonna last forever and 3 days. I would consider placing a scrap piece of flooring down to protect the bottom, especially on the freezer camp side. My week old White and Brown leghorns will be over shortly for a test drive!

Dear old dad is a carpenter! He comes from the school of Do It Right and he wants it to last forever haha. I saved some of the old wood flooring from when I replaced mine and will be putting that in the bottom. I am also considering getting some cheap linoleum for the bottom since it's thinner. Bring the little guys over! They can give my wyandottes, orpingtons, auraucanas, welsummers, marans, and blue andalusions a warm welcome!

I had thought about using just plastic tubs but it didn't seem worth the money. I also needed something that I could transport my grown meet birds around in as well when they go to freezer camp. I had a lot of ideas running through my head, but dad decided and did all the work for me and I am totally okay with it!
