New butcher/processor in Upstate NY

Wow my mom lives right off covey town road. I wonder if that's where she plans to go. I know we just had chicken that was processed by the Amish but I'm not sure who or where she got the chickens. I bought her some chickens from a hatchery to help me meet the minimum for my duckling order for mothers day so I'll let her know about this place.

Thanks carress I talked to Dana the other day, 2.75 a bird is a decent price and 50-75 cents more she vacum seals. Considering the price of our vaccum bags it is certainly worth it to us. I intend on checking out her operation before dropping the birds off. They are a few miles away, imagine our surprise, so a couple trips is not a issue. I will share our experience with Berkshire Farm in a few weeks.

Again much thanks,

Heath

Well, we had to wait an extra week to get them processed. They understandably wont just do 24 chickens if there isnt more to be processed. Which wasnt that big of an issue since we have been raising them to 12 weeks plus for years(like small turkeys). So if anyone wants to use them I would make sure Dana is processing that week.
So the operation is in an old barn. We had to round up boxs to transport them. The crates can be purchased cheaper, but I was told they are like 70 bucks or more new. Anyways, we pulled up to the barn Tues afternoon, transfered them to crates she has available, and picked them up the next day. I unfortunatly did not go, since I had fallen offf a 13 foot ladder on my side and was and still down for a bit. All the chickens were vacuum sealed, 3.25 per bird. The birds looked good, we havent tried any yet since we still have 7 from last year. Barring some unforseen circumstance, we will be using Berkshireview Farms next year.

Thanks again caress for directing me to them. Funny thing is, our friends use to own a home adjacent to the farm, and their oldest daughter who my wife saw when she picked up the chickens hangs out thers and helps..

Thats fantastic!!! Not the falling and hurting though...ouch! Hope you feel better fast!!! Its great to find good processors. My year is not turning out as expected as my hatches have been abissmal at best;( I was expecting to have around 25-30 Bresse to butcher come fall but I hatched 3 and now it looks like those 3 I will be saving for breeders to try all over again next year! I just hope the trio is a true trio and not all of 1 sex!
