NEW Button Quail Breeding Cages! *PICTURES!*

No they will slip and slide on shavings and over that metal floor you have in the pic or cardboard Do as you wish but you will see when you add shavings to that bear metal or even cardboard best to use hardware cloth on top of that metal floor for them to walk on....

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

There is already metal on the bottom ...

I was talking about putting cardboard of newspaper on the bottom over the metal, and then putting alot of shavings on top. Or maybe hay. Haven't decided yet

That would work, except that buttons shouldn't be kept on wire. But one could flip it over so the wire is flat on the bottom and put shavings on top, that would work

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

I have raised all of my buttons on shavings, never had problems with slipping and sliding.

The problem is not with you putting them on shavings, the problem is putting them on shavings on that floor. It is very slick, even if you put newspaper or cardboard on it, it will still be very slick. You need to put something under the shavings to make the floor less slick.

Even with shavings on that floor they will still slide. If you choose to put them in there with nothing but shavings on that metal floor, don't come back telling us that your buttons have hurt their legs

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy,

This is the kind of thing you could put under your shavings.

It will give the most secure footing possible.

You can buy it at Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. It is not very expensive. Sometimes you can get extra large packages at stores like Home Depot and Lowes.

You can probably get it at Dollar General and Family Dollar, too.

If it gets soiled, you can hose it off with the garden hose. You could even soak it for a couple of hours, first. You could also add just a touch of bleach if you wanted to. I am still looking for two more cages without wire bottoms for some button quail. They are the last of my buttons on wire bottom. They have about three layers of this shelf liner on top of it to protect their little feet. It gets soiled FAST though. I should add some wood shavings to it and save myself some headache! I think I'll do that later this week!

Yes, it would need to be taken out.

Do you maybe mean something more similar to Contact Paper? I think they now make some rougher versions of that. That would work.

If that's what you mean, I'll look up a link for Mrs. Fluffy Puffy. She may not be sure what we are talking about. It's not a product that most teens would be familiar with at all, I don't think.

I need to make some for our bobs!! How big should it be? O, and Mrs. Fluffy Puffy, checkout the BOBWHITE QUAIL INFO post!! It tells ALL about Bobs!! If you are getting them.....
