Thanks for the support. My back needs some! Oh, man, leaning over the hatcher is doing me in tonight, LOL.

The #4 Barred Rock baby is out now. All hatching clean as a whistle! Same ones that were pipped previously are still the only ones pipped, as far as I can tell. We're just 3 hours into Day 21, so there's plenty of time.


***#5 Barred Rock baby has hatched now. Had to take the rest down to the brooder and I'll show you why in the next pics I'm going to post.

You can do it pretty well, but I have to wait till they fluff out so I can check out their overall color and headspots. The more silvery looking ones with bigger, splotchier headspots and lighter colored legs are usually boys, but not 100% of the time. My Lexie, the famous Lexie, had all the markings of a cockerel, so there are some exceptions to the rule, but I'd say it was 95% accurate, putting all those attributes together.

These I'm hatching for myself, minus the boys, of course, but the last couple of hatches were to get some for other people. I was "custom-hatching" on some of them. I did keep a Barred Rock cockerel and pullet for my flock from the last couple of hatches and most of the pullets from this hatch, I'll keep for my BR laying/breeding flock and Orp flock.

#6 Barred Rock hatched during the night. Three others have pipped and one remaining to pip. Remember I said I numbered the eggs Kate gave me 1-10? #1 hatched first, which was weird enough, but do you know which one is left unpipped? #10! Can you believe it, LOL? No, they didn't go in sequence in between, but I thought that odd.
Lexie's one huge egg did pip, the second Blue Orp has pipped, but the first one hasn't progressed any and neither has the first Ameraucana that pipped. One Ameraucana remains to pip. So, out of 15 eggs, there are only two left unpipped right now.
I have company coming and have to get my chicken chores finished before noon and myself presentable so the pics may not come till later this afternoon.
