HI,

I am new here and just trying to get as much information about raising backyard chickens as I can before actually getting them. After an unusually brutal winter here in Ontario I'm a little nervous they won't be happy with all the snow and cold but I've been reading that they are not as fragile as one might think as long as I keep them fed, clean, and dry :)

This site looks like a great place for information and sharing so I'm excited to start asking questions and go from there!

Welcome to BYC! Chickens can withstand incredible cold as along as you have good ventilation in your coop, keep the drafts down, and they can stay dry. You might want to do some reading in our learning center here on BYC for lots of good reads on all the aspects of poultry keeping....

There are lots of members from Canada here on BYC. You might want to chat with others in Canada to see how they get thru your brutal winters...

Good luck with your new adventures and welcome to BYC!

Welcome to BYC - Kelsie and TwoCrows have given you some great starting points. Good luck in establishing a winter hardy flock. It's been a rough winter for everyone.
