From Farm and Dairy:

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed five additional cases of virulent Newcastle disease in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, California, during the week of May 3-9.

They aren't specific whether these cases were found in small private flocks or large commercial ones or if this extends the area of any of the hotspots. I wish they would be clear on these topics.

And that brings the total to date to:

432 cases of vND in California, including
• 139 in San Bernardino County,
• 250 in Riverside County,
• 42 in Los Angeles County,
• 1 in Ventura County, and
• 1 in Alameda County. USDA also confirmed
1 case in Utah County, Utah and
1 case in Coconino County, Arizona

Then there's this update from Riverside's Press-Enterprise:

So far, 1.1 million commercial birds and 120,000 backyard birds — predominantly chickens — have been euthanized in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, according to California Department of Food & Agriculture spokesman Sandy Cooney. Euthanasia orders remain in place in 15 communities in Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire as state and federal officials gather birds that may have been exposed to the virus.

120K backyard birds from just 3 counties over the last year since the quarantine was announced. That's a LOT of birds for such a small area of CA considering that the LA County contagion area is quite small itself. (And that much is my editorial comment.)

The numbers are mind boggling. thanks for the update. I worry that commercial farms can't afford to come back from this and the land will, of course, go for development.

Oh! Are you from SoCal? Oxnard was exactly what I was thinking of.

Oh yes! I lived my entire life in so Cal until this past january when we moved here. I grew up in Lakewood and then moved to the IE. I lived the longest in Rancho Cucamonga -- 35 years. They are now 95% built out. It's amazing, really. The benefit was our house sold over asking at the first open. 30 day escrow and we were out!

It is! Grants Pass is nice.
The main reason we chose this area was because our daughter lives here. We are about an hour from Portland. Our area is very rural. I always describe it this way: The closest Dominoes delivers is the parking lot of the store at Yankton which is about five miles away!
