New Cat - How Long

I have seen it take anywhere from two weeks to a month for a cat to consider a place home.
My parents once got a siamese and she took off right away because they didnt shut her in someplace for a bit. However....a week later she did come back.

We have a new kitten that is 4 months old. After she is spayed she is moving outside.
She has been outside twice now and her favorite place is under my house. It takes forever to coax her out.
I figure that once she is spayed she will know that this is home.
