I purchased two unsexed ducklings at the feed store in April that turned out to be beautiful Cayugas. We thought we got lucky and had a male and female but as it turned out our Dixie was not a chick, lol, but was a late bloomer and got his curly feathers a month later than his buddy Cooper. Anyway we love the breed and wanted to get them some ladies. I'm having a hard time finding females for sale in my area and really wanted them to be outdoor ready so I drove 2 hours for a hen posted on Craigslist. Well she's not coming from the best situation and was dehydrated and a bit disheveled but we couldn't leave her there and brought her home dispite her flaws. This brings me to my questions. Her neck has a swerve to it only seen when she's not swimming, her neck is also longer than my drakes. I've seen this in ducklings be repaired but is it possible this can be fixed with proper nutrition in an adult? Secondly she doesn't seem to shed the water the way my drakes do and is almost water logged when exiting her pond. I was thinking maybe she wasn't as old as they said she was (7 months) but even if she's not she is definitely old enough to have all her oils. To be honest I'm not sure I can believe anything these people told me but what's done is done and I've never been one to turn my back on an animal in need. She looks so homely next to my boys so I'm hoping to get advice on maybe a vitamin supplement or maybe she just needs time in a clean healthy environment? Any advice is appreciated, thank you!
