New chick dying...please help! She is very critical

I was going to ask you if it was Meyers, it is dehydration.

Myers had this problem for some time know.

...I can give her some sub-q fluids...I just don't know if that is a good idea ATM...her body temp is already too low...

She needs to get her temp up to normal or she wont be able
assimilate what your giving her orally.
Try to get her temp up - put some hot water in a bowl or something
somewhere near her heating pad to raise the temp-
just make sure she cannot fall into it.

I wish you luck, but sometimes they dont all make it with shipped
chicks. She was probably already runty, stressed, or injured before
the trip. Young chicks dont all make without shipping so be prepared
to lose this one.

Im sure you've had enough experience with re-habbing that you
are doing all you can.

90-95 is more like it. Place a thermometer next to the chick to double check, leave it there 5 minutes to stabilize. I personally do not like pedialite (sp) at all for baby chicks. It is made for dehydration in humans and has a tremendous amount of salt and other minerals (for a chick) that the chick does not need at that age.
Try 1-2 tablespoons of natural sugar or molasses in a gallon of warm water. Use this in the chicks waterer and see if the weak one will take it via dropper.

I agree with you. Unless you get the fluid to about 103...even then im not sure I would go that route. D5w watered down to half would be about your only good choice anyway. If she is still taking fluid orally anyway.

I have the pedialite super diluted...1 part human dilution to 5 parts water, but I DO have molasses...and sugar. Which is better?

The weak chick is not taking any foods at the moment. I don't want to force her cause I have limited experience with birds, and I know how easy it is to aspirate them...I am already worried that I may have aspirated her a little. If she makes it through the night, I will be starting her on oral amoxi in the morning to be on the safe side.

So, in addition to the heat lamp and the heating pad, add hot water in a bowl?

You don't want to sub-q fluids, I would get the temp up then try getting it to drink water.
I would try to get the air temp around the chick right around 95 to 98 and a little on the humid side.

She isn't even standing on her own. She can't drink on her own....I am going to get a bowl of hot water to put in there with her though...thank you all so much for helping me (and her) out...it is so wonderful that we have such an amazing community we can fall back on when we need some help...please send your thoughts/prayers her way

I still have little hope for her

last resort. you could try running a hot bath and take her in there with you. the warm humid air certainly wont hurt and you can gently warm her while holding her both close to you and the water. She has got to get warm enough and enough energy to take the fluids or (well, you know)

I have her in a small box on a heating pad with a large dish of hot water (separated from her), but she is still pretty limp...responsive, but limp. Very weak...Her body temp feels more normal now though.
