New chick dying...please help! She is very critical

I will see if I can get a little bit of honey in her...She is still hanging on, which kindof suprises me.

... im no help... but on a more positive note... Red, my RIR, is now very big and any day now could start laying... when she was days old she too was in very critical condition... on the verge... and back then everytime i would check on her i would keep finding her on the broader floor...out stretched, lame and almost lifeless... like very sleepy and she would get walked on by the others as she lay out stretched on the floor.... for sure i was going to lose her or so i thought, so in a pinch i sorta forced some liquid baby vitamins and some baby electrolytes using medicince dropper (i have 3 really young kids so the stuff was already laying around) i did this for like every hour for like the whole day... half the time i had to scrape her off the floor and get the others off her and kinda 'slap' and 'shake' the life back in her everytime... petting her... rubbing her crop and back...anything just to stimulate her senses.. i still didn't see any improvements but kept at it with the vitamins and such... the next day she was still kinda lame but more alert and awake... i eased off on the vitamins and pedialyte and sorta gave her her own corner with the heat lamp turned up a bit... then i would gentle rub her cheeks and head just to her to move around... anywho...long story short... i thought it was hopeless but by that week's end she made 100% recovery and was the official runt of the pack... now i am just waiting for Red to start laying... so sometimes it can get worse before getting better... at least it worked out for me... so probably like everybody says...the best thing to do right now is to keep her warm and hydrated and as stress free as possible... good luck kari dawn

Okay, I got the tiniest drop of honey in her beak...she took no notice of it...I guess it's a wait and see...would instant glucose be better? I have some of that for my rehabs....

Thanks. That makes me feel better...this chick is just so small and runty though...it makes me think that maybe she was just one of the ones that isn't meant to make it.

Where did you get the chicks from? It sounds like they have dehydration.

Meyers. The rest are all doing really good. The first chick I was worried about is actually doing better now. There were 15 of them. 14 are doing very well. I am really glad the arrived on time...their projected delivery was the 3rd through the 6th, which really supprised me...that seems like an awful lot of days...especially seeing the condition of the two weak ones

What about Save-A-Chick??

I saw some of that at Agway the other day and I have seen on here that some people use that... Have you tried holding her against you with the heating blanket??

Maybe she just needs a bit of time and some love.

I hope the best for you!!!

You may also have to force some liquids into them... I wouldnt use to cold of water... room temp would be best... You just have to hold open their beaks and put the water in there with a dropper... they probably wont like it but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I was going to ask you if it was Meyers, it is dehydration.

Myers had this problem for some time know.

I have been picking her up to check on her, but it is easier to keep a consistant heat if I am not carrying her around and holding her to me. I feel she will stay warmer and be jostled less if I leave her in the warm area.

As far as Save-A-Chick, that and other supplies mentioned will have to wait...I just can't leave her right now....I think her best bet is for me to stay here and help level out her system right now...I would be gone for too long.
