I decided to join BYC in hopes of finding support and helpful information. This is all new to me, and I am excited to get started. My chicks are four weeks old. I want to give them the best care I can. This seems like a good place to ask for help.

Hello. Thank you for writing to me. I, too, am a Christian. My two sons (twins) are grown and each have son of their own. I am married and live in the country with my husband. For many years, I have wanted to have chickens, and I finally made it happen. YEAH! My problem is, I didn't plan well. My husband and son were going to build a coop for my girls, but for various reasons, it hasn't happened yet. Right now they are in a small coop that was purchased at Rural King Farm Supply. It's cute, but not predator proof, so I have it in the garage. The poor chickens are growing so fast. The coop is made for 2 to 4 chickens, and I have 9. My plan is to have a permanent coop close to our garage for night time safety and a chicken tractor to move around our three acres during the day. I'm looking for the cheapest place to buy hardware wire, as money is a little tight. I'm looking for advice or any ideas for building a coop and a chicken tractor. I am eager to learn! Please share your chicken stories if you'd like. thank you

Welcome from Illinois! I just started using this forum a month or so ago and have everyone to be extremely helpful. Best of luck with your little ladies!

Thank you. I'm from Illinois, too. It has rained a lot here in the last week, and I'm glad my chicks were still in the garage. They are patiently waiting for a coop so they can go outside. Hopefully, that will happen this week. I have searched MANY websites, looking at different ideas for coops and tractors. We have so many predators in our area...coons, foxes, hawks, owls, dogs, and we even saw a weasel behind our house last summer. If you are an experienced chicken herder (lol), I would be interested in any advice you may have. thanks
