Hi, my name is Sarah! I'm 25 years young, married, no kids just a dog and cat! I recently found the love of living off the land and wanted to start small. I'm just now getting into the backyard chicken world and I'm so excited to learn all about everything there is to know about chickens and how to raise them. I have a TON of questions and I don't know where to begin!! I'm open to any and all advice!!! I look forward to building relationships with everyone!

Hi Sarah! Welcome!! :) There is SO much great information on this site. I would start in the learning center section (I would link you but I'm mobile) and spend some time there first, if you haven't already. Then browse around the forums and ask questions if you have them! :) Seriously there is everything you ever wanted to know, and lots if stuff that you didn't know you needed to learn, lol! :)

Thank you! I will definitely scoot on over to the learning section and browse through there. I too am on mobile (with a cracked screen) so it's slow to load and at times, hard to read. I am so excited to be on here! I'm in the process of trying to convince my husband to allow me to get chickens. So in the mean time, I'm doing all the research I can.

Maybe one idea to get him on board the chicken train would be to show him the conditions that most of the poor meat and egg birds live in. I know that was a big turning point for me, personally! I took this class in college on animal welfare, and one section was all about chickens and the conditions that they live in. Heartbreaking, and eye opening! I hope you can convince him asap so you can get started!! :)

Oh that's a very good point! I'll have to try that on him. We've been talking about it all day and he specifically said, "I don't know why we are talking about this, you're going to do what you want anyways."

He's not a big animal person like me, I've had to convince him of a lot when it came to our dog and cat. He's a work in progress but I think I have to be the one that acts on things and speak with my actions rather than my words. But I've got to live my own life still even though I am married, I've gotta do what makes me happy and right now chickens make me happy!!
