New chick mama!

Sad for your loss:(

5 days. There aren't a lot of options where we live. I now know that we should have gone to a place where they only sell them at 2 weeks, & fully vaccinated.

I am no expert (I’ve only raised one batch of chicks), but from what I’ve read, it’s not unusual to lose very young chick or two for reasons you can’t discern. Like I said, no expert here! But that’s the vibe I’ve gotten from things I have read about wee baby chicks.

We have 2 Sussex, 2 Marantz, 2 New Hampshire, 1 Plymouth Rock
Sadly one Plymouth Rock died last night.

I found BYC last night while searching the Internet to find clues as to what I might be doing wrong to have caused one of my chicks to die. My husband said he'd done loads of research beforehand, but really he doesn't seem to know anything!

We have 5 cats an aquarium, 3 ponds - and a resident frog.
I love gardening - we grow as much of our food as I can manage

I recently retrained to become a medical pedicurist, & my husband is retraining to become a tour guide

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people!
How about some "evidence" so perhaps we can add some insight about the chick that died? What's your brooder setup? What are you feeding them? Heat source? Temperature? Pictures of your setup always help us to try to help you!

An update - 6 out of the original 8 survived & are doing really well. They have been in the coop outside in the upstairs part for a week, & will move down to the main coop in a week's time. They are enjoying water melon, strawberries, grapes, mashed egg, marigold and courgette flowers, lavender, mint, rosemary & oregano as treats, and still eating their chick food at a healthy rate. Interesting how they are all developing personalities - most friendly chick; Top bird; bully-bird; not-very-bright; nice-but-dim...!!!
