Hi y'all! What a cool site to find. So happy to be here and find this community!
I was gifted some chicks from a friend, and they all came from Tractor Supply. I was told the white was a female Leghorn, the gray was a female Amberlink (learning that amber links are...not gray?) and black female sexlink.
What do you all think?

BREED/SEXING GUESSES (WITH DISCLAIMERS):

White Leghorn: Probably female (Leghorn roos are loud and obnoxious early). BUT TSC’s ‘all pullet’ claims are sometimes… optimistic.

Gray ‘Amberlink’: Amberlinks are usually gold/brown—so gray is sus. Could be: A Barred Rock mix (if stripes appear later). A mislabeled Sapphire Gem (they’re slate-gray). Sex? If it’s actually an Amberlink, likely female (sexlinks are usually hens).

Black Sexlink: Should be female (sexlinks are designed to be hens). But: If it’s not, you’ve got a masterclass in false advertising.

HOW TO SPOT A ROO EARLY:

1. Leg Thickness: Roos = tree trunks. Hens = twigs.
2. Comb/Wattles: Roos develop faster (by 4-6 weeks).
3, Attitude: Roos stare into your soul like they’re auditioning for a Viking role in one of those old movies (about vikings...naturally).

Expectant Steps Forward:

Watch for ‘oops’ crowing (around 8-12 weeks). Name all chicks gender-neutrally (e.g., ‘Judge’ or ‘Lawsuit’). Embrace the chaos (because TSC chicks are the mystery bags of poultry).

P.S. If the ‘Amberlink’ starts singing opera, we need video.

I know who I'm coming to ask questions next. Best answers ever! This helps me as well. I am about to get some chicks any day now. It's so crazy how all breeds have their own attitudes. Fun to watch them grow.

Why thank you! Anything I can do to help, drop me a line. If I don't know, I will find out! :)

(And welcome! I see you are relatively new, so welcoming gift fruit basket and the penny tour is on me, hehe).

The white one could be a Leghorn, though she almost looks creamy white, so could possibly be an Amberlink. The black one is probably a black sex link. The grey (technically called blue) one is definitely not an Amberlink. She could be a Sapphire Gem. :)

Thank you everyone!! Wow, some great advice here. I really appreciate all your perspectives. I'll be sure to update as they get older!

Oh darn...already named them. Leghorn is Scarlet, Sexlink is Henrietta, and "Amberlink" is Winifred lol. Since they were potentially mislabeled to begin with, might as well keep the trend going..😂This is some great info! Thank you so much. If we're determining based on staring into my soul, scarlet is definitely a girl. She has the sweetest little gaze. Will keep you all updated on Winnie...she's got thick legs and an attitude
