Hi everyone! I'm new to raising chicks. Today while cleaning the brooder I found something under the win but on the back of my easter egger. I gently touched it, and it didn't seem to bother the chick. It kinda looks like a food crumble, but I don't want to pick at it. Could it pop off when the new feathers grow? Instead of wondering "what if" I figured I would post a picture and ask for your advice.

Could you post a pick of the whole chick and take a pencil and point to the exact spot where you discovered this?

Your description of its location is much too broad.

I've never seen such a thing, but I need to know where on the chick it's actually located.

Yes here is another one, having a hard time getting a picture, here is another shot of the whole back of the chicken.

it looks like she just layer in some wet poop or food. Don't worry about it. She'll clean it or it should fall off.

Here's a safe way to see if it comes off. Take some olive oil and dip a Q-tip into it. Slather plenty of oil on the mystery spot. If it's foreign matter, the oil will dissolve it. If it's a growth on the chick's skin, the oil might help define it better. It certainly won't hurt it.

Give that a try and report back. We're all curious as all get-out now!

When I came home to take care of my chick, I noticed that the mysterious "thing" had totally disappeared. So it may have been nothing but glad I asked because now I have a tip for next time!
