Hi there,

My name is Debora and I live in The Netherlands. I'm a mother of two cute kids, one girl (5 yrs) and a boy (2 yrs). And the wife of a lovely strong Dutchmen.
We have a relatively large backyard for Dutch standards so we thought it would be so nice to own some chickens and let the kids see them grow up, help with the overall care, cleaning etc. It's been so good already! We got 6 chicks, they are now 5 weeks old. We love it. My husband is very handy and is building their outside coop, with ren. But when we are home, and the chicks are slightly bigger, they will wander around the backyard.
I think the coop will be ready in a week or so. The chicks are already outside for a few hours every day. They seem to love it. It's about 68 degrees here during the day and they're not complaining.

We've got 6 (bantam) chicks.
2 Wyandotte Bantam red / porselin
2 Wyandotte Bantam patrijs (don't know the English term for Patrijs)
2 Cochin Bantam buff

Some more information about me:
I'm 36 years old and work as a freelance marketing communication advisor. My husband works for a creative agency.
We are dreaming about a simple life in where we can grow our own food and be self sustaining I guess. My English is a bit rusty,..
But a big part of that dream is to, eventually, do what we love to do. That is being, working and living outside as much as we can. My husband wants to get out of the creative business and is teaching himself to become a builder (?) He's doing pretty great so far. Lot's of schooling, tutorials, courses etc.

I'm sure I will ask you guys a lot of questions so feel free to ask me anything!
I've read a lot on this forum already and the Dutch forums are not that informative as this one. That's why I choose to become a member here :)

For now I'm trying to figure out how many hens and roo's we've got. I've got some pictures, get I place them somewhere?

Can you tell which one's are roosters and hens?
I cannot tell 5 and 6 apart. They look so much alike.
Number 3 is def the biggest of them all!
And number 2 has been smaller than number 1.

My guess I that 2 and 3 are roosters. #3 is only based on size and some red comb development at #2.
