New to chicks: I have 5 chicks that are one week old. The temp where I live is 80s during the day and low 70s at night. When can I take them outside?

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on your new chicks! Your chicks will need to be fully feathered before they can go out side into the coop. Week olds need about 90 degrees and the temp lowered by 5 degrees each week for at least 5 weeks as they will then be fully feathered. Feathers help them control their thermostat and keep them warm or cool. This baby fuzz they have can not do this.

You can however, continue to brood them outside if you have building that has stable enough temps that the temps don't drop more than 10 degrees at night. I just got my 4 week olds in a building outside to finish brooding as I couldn't take the dander any more. LOL

You might want to stop by this article in our learning center on brooding chicks. I will also include the link to the entire learning center as well...

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help. X3 on what Two Crows said. They have to be fully feathered before they can be permanently living outside. But, they can go out during the day time if it's in the 70s-90s. Check out the links attached also. Again, welcome to the community!

Please keep an eye on them if you take them outside for recess - every predator loves chicken. They are bold as brass nowadays and aren't fearful of humans around them.
