New chick won't stop "peeping"

I have some new chicks. They have plenty of clean fresh food and water. I have a heat light also. None of the other chicks are Peeping all the time but I have one that does nothing but peep...nonstop. My Grand daughters have played with/held them a lot. I'm wondering if this chick is spoiled...or what. I've checked it thoroughly....no apparent injury or reason for peeping that I can see....what could it be. I'm just worried about it!

Make sure she's not pasting up or something. Can she find the water and food? Are you sure she's eating and drinking? Is she under the lamp or has she gotten pushed to the side?

Usually constant peeping like that means the chick is in distress. Sometimes you have to do a little investigative work to figure out what it is. Happy chicks make a very contented little chirping sound. That loud peeping is a problem.

One of my barred rocks was like that. Out of 30 chicks, it was always that one interrupting the movie with its non-stop peeping. We named it nugget and it was 8 weeks old by the time we could no longer tell it apart from the others by its noise level.

Is it possible that it could have become attached to your grandkids and it's peeping to find them? I know some get more attached to humans than others. I have one right now that although it doesn't peep (not at all), it waits patiently for me to finish restocking the food and water to pick it up and just hold and stroke it. It often will just fall asleep in my hand, totally content. It seems to ignore all the other chicks and they ignore it. Just thinkin' it might be similar.

I have one like too. it just never shuts up. You no how it is, there is a loud mouth everywere you go! LOL!!

My buff silkie was a loud peeper bringing him home from the feed store.

As soon as I turned on the red heat lamp, he stopped with the loud, demanding, non-stop peeping.

Is your light red?

No, my light is not red, although I've read that is the best. Just can't get another one right now. But maybe soon...But it seems to be better. I think it's fine.....just is a little spoiled. When I pick him up, he's fine....sleeps in my hand. But when he's returned to the brooder, he starts all over again. SPOILED!

Ah, I had the same problem with my babies.

Try raising the heat in the brood box by 5 degrees, regardless of where it's at right now. Watch carefully to make sure it doesn't get too hot, of course! If your light is hanging, drop it down a little. If it can't be moved closer to the peeps, then go up a wattage with the bulb.

Wait 4 hours. Has the peeping stopped? If yes, hooray! If not, try lowering the heat by 5 degrees from what it was originally. (i.e., 10 degrees from where it is right now, after raising the heat.)

I would be willing to bet five dolla that this one chickie is too cold. That's why it snuggles up and falls asleep in your hand - ahh, warmth!

Please note that making these temperature changes will break the rules you've read in your chicken book, for what temp it should be at which week. What can I say? My chicks apparently hadn't read the book.
