Hello, my family and I are new to keeping chickens and ducks. I am looking forward to being a part of this forum and reading all of this shared knowledge.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes, we got our chicks and ducklings early March 2020
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 6 chickens and 3 ducklings
(3) What breeds do you have? 3 Bantams and 3 Black Sex Link, 3 Peking ducklings
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? We are looking forward to fresh eggs, but right now it has been fun watching the ducklings and chicks grow. We are looking forward to them being big enough to go to their coop and also waiting for Michigan weather to warm up. We did have 3 ducks years ago and it was so fun watching them follow each other around the yard back and forth to the pond.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Outside of work, we enjoy hiking, snowshoeing/snowmobiling in the winter, travel to new places, hanging out with family, target shooting bows and guns
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We have two dogs, a black lab and a basset hound. We have a cat and she is about 18 years old. I am a RN but my job is Director of Healthcare Compliance for a large hospice company that services MI, IL and PA. We have 7 children and the youngest is almost 18. We have 6 grandchildren that also keep us busy.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Internet searching lead me to this site. I have known about it for years, since 2012 I would say (when we had our first set of ducks). I am in need of good resources and a community of chicken lovers.
