Hi there! I’m a new chicken chicken and quail mom living in southern Arizona. I’ve had chickens since January and this is my first time raising birds. Right now I have a total of 12 chicks in a variety of breand 4 quail.

My current breeds are Production red, Easter Egger, Sapphire, Buff Silkie, French Black Copper Marans, and Dark Brahmas, as well as Coturnix quails. I have 6 more chicks coming in April which will be Olive Eggers, Cinnamon Queen, Austria White and Black Sex Link.

So far I’m loving raising chickens in my backyard. They are full of personality and a blast to hang out with. I’m looking forward to their eggs too!

Besides raising chickens, I’m a mom to one boy who is about to turn 18, I have three dogs, and I’m trying to build a food forest on my property. By day I’m a writer, editor, and associate publisher.

Hi Miss Peep! I am in southern az too! I have had coturnix for about a year, and just got my first 4 chickens a few weeks ago. How do you keep your birds cool during the 100* weather months?
