Hello,

My daughter, grandson and myself are going to start raising chickens! We have a small farm in Southeast Kansas. We would like to find the best hens for laying big brown eggs. We have a building that we are going to turn into our coop. My plan is to let them run during the day and lock them up at night. Just wondering where we should put the nesting boxes? We are so excited to get started!! Thanks for welcoming us!!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! The Learning Center is a great place to start for information! https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center this one has articles on nest boxes etc https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/housing-and-feeding-your-chickens Usually you want your nest boxes at least a little off the floor (12-18" is common, unless you have silkies or birds that can't fly) and easy to get into, but lower than the roosts or they will try to sleep on or in them, in the darkest quietest corner of the coop.

Kelsie has left you with a good link to follow for lots of good reads on all aspects of keeping poultry. You can also look at our coops pages to see how other members have their coop interior set up. You might find exactly what you are looking for.....
