Hello, I'm Bill and I am new to raising chickens.( that sounded like a CA (chickens anonymous) statement, LOL) I have a total of 10 one week old chicks. 4 Black Australorp, 3 Partridge Chanteelers and 3 Easter Eggers. We originally ordered 16 (was going to split with a friend), however upon arrival all were dead (it took the USPS 4 days to get them to us) except for the 3 Easter Eggers. The other 7 we picked up from the our local True Value. We are enjoying getting to know them, they don't seem to be as excited to meet us, yet. I have been on the forum for a month or so just gathering information before I took the plunge. Ii look forward to raising these characters, and getting as much information from this group.
My first question is, What to use on the ground in my covered run? I live in a small rural town outside of Las Vegas, Nv. As you probably know it gets a little warm around here. I am leaning towards sand, but also thinking pine chunks. Please help!
