For the last three years I've wanted chickens. I love fresh eggs, and I'm big on knowing where my food comes from (we also recently ripped up our front lawn to turn it all into garden space). I'm fortunate to live in a fairly mild climate in the Cascade Foothills.

In February, I finally took the plunge. We have 4 red sex links, 4 buffs, and this past week rescued two 1-yr-old Pekin Ducks (which I am loving as an addition to our flock). The hens will hopefully start laying around July 4th! Yay!

Love so much of what I'm seeing here in this community already.

See you around the site!

Welcome MamaCasz! I'm just a little bit south of you. Our first chicks are 6 weeks old. Two of them are already crowing so I know we've got some little rooster-wanna-bes in the bunch. We are looking forward to some colorful eggs as soon as the girls are all grown up. My neighbor has a lot of ducks. They seem like a lot more work than the chickens, but she loves them. The eat slugs, too!
