Hello all.

I’ve placed an order from Hoover’s and I initially chose their Midnight Majesty Maran but I am wanted very dark chocolate brown eggs. I’m not sure if I will get that from them. I can change my order to the French Copper Black Marans but they are straightrun (which I’ve never ordered before) and Im not even sure on the quality of their FBCM. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen some other more reputable hatcheries that have FBCM with very dark eggs but I can’t afford to order more right now and they sell them for $30/chick. My husband would not be impressed if I spent that 🤣

I have some Midnight Majesty Marans in my mixed flock from Hoover. They will be a year old in June. Here is a link to eggs that they laid. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...d-of-chicken-laid-them.1337945/#post-21886535
They were about 4 months old when they laid these. They have gotten a little darker than what the photo shows and a little bigger. As the laying season progresses and the more eggs they lay they will get a little lighter. This will happen with chickens that lay colored eggs. If you look at my members page I also have some pictures of my Marans at 4/5 months of age.

Thank you! I was having trouble finding any pictures of their eggs. I think I’m going to get the Black Coppers instead.

You won't get very dark eggs from hatchery chickens. Look for specific breeders. Also hatcheries sell at ridiculous prices, small breeders will give you your money's worth
