Stay away from roosters if you can unless you have multilpe cages to keep them in. I thought I only had one rooster but ended up with four. Now two are fighting to death and I have to keep them seperated. I don't ever remember seeing chickens fight like this, they were both bloody messes and the one's head is still swollen three days later. Not sure what I am going to do, I shudder to think of one in a pot.
 
Welcome to BYC and chickens. I started with chickens a year ago and have gone from 6 to 40 chickens in a year.I've become completely obsessed. I love my birds, am constantly thinking up and making changes and additions to their coops and hen yards. I give eggs to everyone ( and everyone knows to save me their used egg cartons )I even take photos of my girls and post them on the chicken blog I started- Like I said completely obsessed- So just know you're not alone

My advice to you is continue to hang out here at BYC when you can. I have yet to have a question that couldn't be answered here! Also look for a local poultry group to join so you can find out what chicken events are going on in your specific area.
