new chicken farmer

I grew up a son of a construction worker,we moved constantly.the only time i was around chickens and cows was when i stayed at my grandparents farm.but i always wanted to raise farm animals.got married,............started working construction,and never had room in my life for farm animals.but this week at the age of 57 we got some chicks and i started building a coop,it's a good feeling.I hope i can keep those 6 chicks alive.

Congratulations and good luck with your new additions. I too, am new at this and preparing to raise 6 also. I ordered 3 golden comets and 3 white leghorns. Maybe we could toss ideas or suggestions to each other as we learn. This forum is a huge help and a great place to reference if you need guidance. Again, congratulations and best of luck!

Welcome, Kennyruby101! I have my first 6 chicks now too, after retiring this spring. I think this is a great time to do what we've always wanted to do but didn't have time or room.

Build the coop bigger than you expect you'll need. I bought 20 chicks 3 years ago and I currently have 70. They free range and I have my sunroom set up so I can sit in my recliner in the morning and watch them run around the yard. Since then I've also added a pair of geese and 4 dwarf goats. I love my critters

You've come to the right place - you'll find encouragement and advice whenever you need it. But . . . only 6? After such a long wait, how did you exercise such restraint?
You'll succumb to chicken math soon, I bet!!
