Both of your breeds are fairly heat tolerant. If you fall victim to "chicken math" you might enjoy Delewares and Australorps as well. Both very heat tolerant good layers.

Glad you joined us at Backyard chickens. I don't think you are over reacting - heat kills fast, better to be safe than sorry.
