You’ll love being a part of this group, everyone is so great to each other and the help you get is unbelievable! And around the clock! :) We love to see pictures of chickens and roosters so please feel free to snap some shots! Welcome to BYC and we are so happy to meet you!

:welcome :frow Welcome to the chicken world. Glad you joined us. As you probably have found out what a joy the birds can bring with each having their own unique personality. I hatch out all of my own chicks too. Are you using an incubator or a broody? I have done both but now I only use my incubator so I'm more in control of my hatches. Since my hatches are around 50/50 male/female, I sell my extra males except for the ones I'm going to use as breeders which helps to offset the feed costs. Good luck with your flock and have fun...
Thank you!
So far I have done one time with a broody and most did not hatch, maybe because it was her first time; and one time with an incubator which I am learning, but 4 days ago the first batch hatched and from the 13 eggs only 3 made it out of the egg and 1 is still alive and doing pretty well, a little buff Orpinthon girl, the one in my profile picture. I did not know better and took them out of the incubator after they hatched and then read to keep them in for 24-30 hours after hatch.
The incubator is full of eggs (48) and another batch should start hatching today (5) and tomorrow (8). And the rest one week later.

We have planned to hatch them to sell locally once they are ready to go outside. This is my older son’s (9 yo) entrepreneur project I am supporting since he wants to be a farmer when he grows up.

My layers listed below we are raising for eggs to eat, sell and hatch and the fun and love they are.
I do not have the guts to raise them for meat but have plans to try to attempt some sort of food trading.

2 easter eggers (roosters)

3 yellow buff Orpington

4 red Rhode Island

2 ameraucanas

2 Plymouth Rock

6 blue laced red Wyandotte

1 silver laced Wyandotte

2 wellsummer

2 mottled java

2 black sex link

3 black australorp

2 lavender australorp

2 cream leg bars

1 buckeye

1 Sussex

thank you!

I have been reading stuff in this site for months and love how nice everyone is and how much you all know about raising chickens.

Here are some pictures of my flock. The coop I built it myself from scratch after seeing some pictures online,
