(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am totally new to chickens, I knew nothing about them until a few co-workers shared with me and I started studying on BackYard Chickens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
See below
(3) What breeds do you have?
When I couldn't find eggs at the grocery store in early March, I kind of panicked and started my chicken journey. I didn't want little chicks, so I bought 2, six week black sexlinks and 1 and 7 week 1 Americauna from a local breeder.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Hanging with the chickens is surprisingly relaxing and quite entertaining.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I live in the Texas Hill Country, on 3 acres. I am an IT consultant and work from home. We have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren. Toast is our precious 10 year old mutt, he is a forever puppy and as sweet as pie. However, I did not know that his tongue could go completely around his snout until he saw little chickens. Now that they are bigger, he no longer pays them any attention.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
A co-worker told me about BYC, and I have been a member for a few months now. My chickens are happy, healthy and a bit spoiled. From what I’ve learned from BYC, happy chickens lay eggs.
My husband had a side bet with family that my chicken hobby would be done with in weeks. He was so wrong. Now he says he will build the girls a bigger and better coop when he sees 3 eggs,1 blue. He is really enjoying them too.
