Welcome to BYC. So glad to meet you! Best wishes with your plans. I hope you enjoy your chickens!

How much floor space is there right now?
I don't see how it would be possible to fit eight birds in there.
Also having only eight birds you will only need one nest box.

Yeah, it seems awfully small to me. Here are the specs per the Farm and Fleet website it says can accommodate up to 12 but I don't see how. I've read that they only go in to sleep and don't typically spend much time in the coop.

Hubby can modify as needed. Do you think we should remove all but 1 nesting box? Suggestions welcome!!

I STRONGLY advise against pre-fabs. They're the scourge of the chicken newbie world. No way 8 hens will fit in there.
I was afraid of that, and yes, it seems VERY small. We discussed before purchase that it would be temporary until we confirm we like keeping chickens and then can custom build a really nice coop. But, I'm already in love with these chicks and even if I hadn't bonded with the cuties I would want what's best to house them. I spend time with them everyday and they get excited to see me. I go in the room I keep them in and talk to them and they fly up onto the edge of the bin or even my arm. I stroke their backs and lower neck and talk to them and they love it. I've also given scrambled egg out of my hand as a treat.

It shod be illegal for these nutters to pretend 12 birds could even sleep in there.

I'd suggest using the whole thing as a nest box and build start building something now instead of waiting.

Becareful with treats...even eggs. A balanced diet is best and should prevent most reproduction type (deadly) issues down the road. Treats shoould never be more than 10% of daily feed intake. For a full grown bird that amounts to one tablespoon of treat. A treat is ANY thing you offer besides the complete balanced crumble or pelleted feed.

Treats are more for the humans enjoyment than the bird's.

:welcome:frow For 8 birds you only need a couple of nest boxes and often times they will all use the same nest box. You will find a lot of good information here BYCArticles.jpg Good luck and have fun...
