(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We picked up our first day old chicks last week
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 11 chicks and 3 guinea keets.
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 Barnevelders
2 Welsummers
2 Splash Laced Red Wyandottes
2 Blue Jersey Giants
2 Golden Cuckoo Marans
1 Ayam Cemani
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We have been buying pasture raised eggs for a long time and wanted to have our own. Excited about the journey of raising chickens from chicks as well. We have 5 children, ages 11-21 so it was time for new babies
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to read, watch our children play soccer, camp and travel!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I own a restaurant. My day job is in property management. I also have a cosmetics business on the side. We have 8 fish and a Beagle Basset mix that is 12. I was worried about her with the chicks but she already seems to be a protector, laying outside of their brooder at night.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
A friend actually sent me the link when I mentioned we were looking to get chickens. I have been perusing the site for months and wanted to join so I can participate in the discussions as I find them highly valuable!
