Hi! I just got 2 young hens. They are hen-raised and people-friendly sisters from the same brood. As the new chicks on the block they still need to get acclimated with the rest of the family. I'm looking forward to raising happy chickens and building them a new coop; it will be my weekend project over the next several weeks. If you can help me out - it would be so appreciated! (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Brand new to chickens! I just got my sweet hens!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Just two.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Old English Bantam
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
As a lifelong animal lover I've spent many hours daydreaming of owning a small farm... *sigh* ...unfortunately, that just isn't in my cards right now. Collecting small domesticated animals for my backyard "farm" will have to do. Chickens are charming and getting an egg or two here and there is a nice bonus.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like working in the yard on my planters and in flower beds. Cooking. Reading. Video games. Movies. BBQs. The regular run of the mill stuff.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Married mother of 2 with many different hats. I have a dog, cats, rabbits, chickens, bird feeders and bug hotels.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found it about a year ago when learning a bit about roosters that my son took interest in. We have a coop at grandma's house with a bunch of roos. He recently got a few Old English Bantams. I fell in love with these tiny birds and decided I wanted to add a couple to my family.
