Hi! I am a first-time chicken owner and as of yesterday, we added 6 baby chicks to our family!
We got our babes from Wilco and the clerk said they were about 4 days old. We have 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 color packs (which I believe are similar to Easter Eggers), a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte (I had not heard of this type of Wyandotte before buying, but after looking them up, I'm excited to see what she grows up to look like!) and a Black Australorp. I was hoping for a Barred Rock because I think they are so pretty, but maybe next time
We moved to a little piece of property in Central Oregon last year and we are excited to take this step to be a bit more self-sustaining and learn as we go. I am also a novice gardener but I'm hoping I can have a more bountiful harvest after a summer of mostly-failure last year (darn 115+ temps didn't help me out at all!). My husband is in Law Enforcement and I am a Pediatric ICU nurse but mostly serve my family as a stay-at-home-mama to our 3 young kids. I am excited about teaching my children to care for animals and to honor the way they work for our family with eggs and companionship.
I found out about BYC from the YouTube channel Oak Abode - I've loved her videos on beginner chicken ownership! Thanks for having me, I am looking forward to gleaning wisdom from y'all!
