Just got my two Leghorn hens last week from some people on the other side of Charlotte NC. Bought the run, coup, and two hens for $50.00. Not a bad deal. The hens are about 14 months old and had been bought as a project for their kids. Well the kids gave up on doing the cleaning up job so I ended up with them. I know that the move was stressful for them. They seem happy and I'm sure it will take some time before they start laying again. Has anyone had this experience before to be able to give me any advice as what I could expect as far as laying eggs?

Welcome to BYC! Sounds like you got a great bargain. Leghorns typically begin laying around 20 weeks (on occasion a bit earlier) and are excellent layers of large, white eggs. The White strains in particular are egg laying machines, typically laying over 300 eggs per year. Leghorns are high strung, flighty birds, so it may take them awhile to really adjust following their relocation. Good luck with your flock.

Congrats on your new flock! As Michael has said, it may take a few weeks for them to settle in and start laying again. Give them time, keep the stress down, try not to handle them much and go sit with them daily. Bring food. Food is a wonderful bonding agent and will help calm them if they know you don't mean them any harm.
