hello im new here.. we have 15 chicks about 3 weeks old.. we are beekeepers ,tho new to chickens.
they have not moved into their bigger coop yet and seem bored, altho i visit them like 10 times a day.
i read to hang a c.d to peck at and was wondering what i should hang it from where they wont
hurt themselves in any way.
also what age is ok to give them hanging lettuce? thanks!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Are they in a brooder or outside in an enclosure? Just make sure they have enough room to keep occupied so they aren't picking on each other. If they are in an enclosure, you can put in ladders, mirrors, places to hop up on. Yes, you can hang greens at this age. Keep it to a minimum however and offer up some grit to digest the goodies. Even a small chick pecking seed block might be entertaining.

If they are in a brooder, you might get them outside every day for an hour or so for exercise. Helps to burn off calories they might other wise use to pick on each other. You can add cut branches to brooders, roosting bars, mirrors, a low cut cereal box full of dried leaves, chick starter, alfalfa leaves, a tiny bit of sand for the grit.

Use your imagination to keep them entertained. It doesn't take much.

Good luck with your chicks and welcome to our flock!

thank you! if i hang a c/d what should i hang it from ? wire or twine or fishing line? also hang lettuce on what?
thanks they are in an enclosure in the barn for now.. the new coop is very nice and large, but we

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You can hand both the CD and the lettuce using small gauge polyester, cotton, or hemp rope at your chickens' eye level and they will not hurt themselves on the rope. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.

I usually start letting them have stuff other than chick starter at two weeks..and if there's enough of them (And fifteen is!) just so they won't each get too much, I'll give them a whole raw ear of corn. They love it, and it keeps them entertained for a long time!
