(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We're 2 months in to having chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

4. Sadly I think 1 is a going to be a rooster

(3) What breeds do you have?

2 Lavender Orpingtons
1 Blue Cochin
1 Blue Australorp

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Besides having fresh eggs and natural fertilizer, they're entertaining and I love birds. My husband said no birds when wanted a cockatiel (had 2 growing up). One day he asked why we didn't have chickens and I told him because of the poop getting everywhere (his sister has a bunch and was free ranging them and their favorite spot was the porch). His response? That's what hoses are for. I work for a feed store company in the administration offices so he said get what we need and the chicks. Thought he was joking until he sent me a text on the day I work in the office to remind me.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Reading, going to concerts, scrolling through Pinterest (saving recipes I'll probably never make), watching TV

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm married with 4 grown children (3 boys - 20, 21, 24 & 1 girl, 28). 2 are still at home. We are also parents to 2 dogs, 3 cats and have 3 Grandkittens.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I found BYC when started researching the breeds of chickens we were getting in at work and what would work for us. I wanted decent layers, but friendliest was the biggest one. I belong to several FB pages and many people are not very nice and very judgemental. Here people seem nicer.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Hope all here are good to you.. Oddly there are a few that like to judge anywhere ?
I believe it. I was called stupid and ignorant when I asked what else I need in my stoop and run as far as a substrate goes. I have pine showing and some straw. They also had some fabric I used before going outside (their brooder was inside my home office). Its fleece and also flannel. I put the fleece in the bottom of the coop last night and several told me bad idea, dumb, etc. figured it's been part of their home for 2 months so why not give them familiarity. Was told they're poultry not dogs. To me they're family with the benefits of providing eggs.

Glad to meet you. Best wishes with your flock and all your plans! What a funny story about getting chickens.
Thank you. He tried to deny, but when I tell him the species of when, where we were standing, and what we were doing, plus show him the texts he just smiles like he's been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
