New chicken mom

She affected you so much because you are an animal lover. I think most of us are, on BYC. So sorry for your loss.

. From what I understand, it's not unusual for a chicken to die with no symptoms before hand. That doesn't make it any easier.

Thank you,redsoxs

Did it just drop..like as in a week or two ago?
Or has it been since it has been winter time/less sun light?

I've not been through a molt (well not an obvious one) so I am not 100 percent sure, BUT i do not think they will la when molting.
The need the "energy/nutrition" to grow back pretty feathers...so they won't have enough to produce an egg

She died last Friday;I went to look for her because she got off my lap and walked into coop,i thought she was going to have an egg..there she was on the floor,i must have just walked in seconds later.so all their energy goes into molting, good to know, than you

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
