Hi! About a week and a half ago a chihuahua attacked a RIR in my front yard. I've never seen either of them before. I was able to get her to the vet. They glued her toe and gave her an antibiotic shot. She had pretty bad puncture wounds on her back and a laceration to her ankle. I had her in the backyard at first but was worried about flies in her wounds so she's recovering inside now. She still doesn't want to use her left foot much, but it's improving! I have 2 dogs, 6 cats, and a day care/preschool so I keep busy! I've never had a chicken before so this is all new to me. I'm happy to have found this site for information and help!

Nice to meet you! Chicken care can be tricky but it is also worth it! Chickens can be crazy sometimes and scary at other times but they are awesome all the time.
(Also, just wondering, what did you do with the Chihuahua? And if you plan to keep the chicken, put some safety measures just in case another dog appears)

A lady was out there trying to get it when I heard the commotion. They must live in the neighborhood. Dog and chicken were both under my car. She and her son were able to get him. She kept saying, "he attacked a chicken but the chicken is fine". NO the chicken wasn't!! Grrr!! She will be in own section of the back yard. I'd like to let her free range during the day once she's better, but I'm worried about cats. There are a lot of strays around here and I don't know if they would try to get her. Looking at different coop options now.
