(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes. I bought my chickens a week ago

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 4

(3) What breeds do you have? 1 Buff Orpingon and 3 Australorps

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I heard it’s a way to give back to the earth. Like raising bees. So I wantEd to do my share and experience this Country-COVID life.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Playing guitar/ukulele, crocheting and crafting

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share? My husband and I are empty nesters (pun intended). COVID has kept me inbound which gave me time to start a garden. Raising chickens was always on my bucket list.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? A fellow chicken mom told me about BYC a week ago. At first I was relying on my friends and social media for advice but soon found out BYC is where all the experts are.

Hi! Congrats on your new feather babies and welcome :)
1) We're still new to chickens. We got ours in March this year!
2) We have 7. Started off with 9... one was a roo so we had to say goodbye and one of our silkies died :( But as we've learned, it's common to lose one.
3) We've got a Welsummer, 2 Easter Eggers, a Barred Rock, a Barnevelder, a buff Silkie, and a Cream Brabanter. The Wels is so loud haha
4) I think the best part is definitely the eggs! We got our first one a little over a week ago and now every day has a surprise :) Especially since they all lay different colors
5) I'm a ceramics artist but I also do painting, drawing, tattoo design, and other art forms. We also have a lot of pets so you could call me a zookeeper as well haha + baking because who doesn't love some fresh baked yumminess
6) My fiancé and I are renovating our first house (slowly but surely). He's working from home because of covid so we have more time together now! We're planning our wedding and I'm planting the seed in his mind about getting another dog. We have 2 dogs right now... a mini Aussie (do not recommend) and a border collie (highly recommend and want another haha), a rabbit, a frog, many fish, 2 guinea pigs, and our chickens! We are also planning our garden... may be a fall project as it's a little hot in southeast Texas right now.
7) I found BYC because when we got our chicks there was a pecking issue that I needed help with... found some good advice here! Now I get on here at least twice a week and whenever I need help there's always someone to give advice :)
Welcome to the chicken life! It's great!!!
